Bēhere Rooted with Wings

Rooted with Wings is this year’s thematic inspiration for the group enrichment classes we’re designing. We want our children to feel rooted in family, local community, and nature, while at the same time sparking a curiosity and interest for the unknown world, growing their wings and building a desire to explore and travel by learning about other countries, cultures, past and present, on this beautiful garden planet we all share. All classes will be taught almost exclusively outdoors with an emphasis on living books, rich literature, plant knowledge & history, and hands-on experiences and activities, guided by loving, enthusiastic Guides and specialists.. Here’s a glimpse at our fall offerings and workshops

Bēhere Read

This reading workshop is designed for the active and imaginative student who is an early reader or who is ready to “catch up” (and pass up). This workshop is for readers ready to master reading fluency and become an independent, read-to-learn student. We don’t assign grade levels or ages to this class but this is best designed for children who have a knowledge of basic phonics (know all/most of their single letter sounds) and are starting to blend. This workshop will increase skills in blending, fluency and advanced phonics knowledge using proven speech-to-print curriculum and infusing some of our own custom-designed methods curated for the active child with or without learning differences.

Our children are the future. We're investing everything we have.

In a world revolving seemingly faster and faster— often in the wrong direction, we've found a need to detach and let go of a lot of old ideas while holding onto the best — and doubling down on values that felt closest to our hearts. We sold our home to go live 'tiny' with big nature and more fireside chats. We chose to homeschool and build the business we were born for at the same time. It's been far more challenging than we imagined — but thanks to the power of local community coming together to rethink our children's enrichment for a future we can be excited and passionate about — we're seeing the light.

At Bēhere, we honor the whole child; our outdoor program is a wonderful way for children to learn and forge friendships as part of their home school study. We focus on social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills and weave in some language arts, math, and engineering through group journaling, exploration, loose parts projects, arts/crafts and handwork. We cultivate emotional intelligence, confidence, gratitude, empathy, and consideration woven into nature-based stories (oral and written) and learning games and activities.

The future of education is ready to scale.

This morning I rolled out of bed blanketed in two kids, stepped out of the tiny airstream we call home (for today), onto the dirt, and glanced at my phone to see a text come in from our tiny house builder ...

Open the gates and seize the day!

We’ve recently set up camp on our previous landlords’ 9-acre property staying in a tiny airstream best suited for 3 people, but hey, what’s 2 more? I guess it’s good we like to snuggle in the Lawler household. It’s tight quarters but I love the challenge of paring down further and making tight spaces work. Our soon-to-be 375 sq foot tiny home is going to feel like a mansion.

Everything Must Go

Trusting Beyond what we can see...
I had planned for today’s newsletter to be a follow up to my last one, a continued POV on education, part 2. But alas, plans have shifted. I like to leave space for my dreams to take shape and fulfill what people need, so I have had conversations with many of my future members and listened to counsel from those who have been participants in alternative education communities. Through those conversations it became very clear to me that I am not trying to create a school, but rather a supplemental program to SUPPORT and ENRICH those seeking alternative ways to work and learn. I will revisit these thoughts on “education” in a future newsletter.
